USA - Week 3, Back In VA

Back in Virginia!

We picked my Mom up at the airport and immediately drove to The Cactus Cantina for a baby shower for our friends, Tierney and Gus. They are due with their first child (they think it's a girl) at the end of January. The food was wonderful and the conversation even better. Our friends, Elvira and Keith, drove up from Savannah, GA for the shower. Tierney's Mom was also there, as well as Dave's parents and some friends of Tierney and Gus's from work.

After the official festivities, Dave's parents took my Mom and the kiddo's 'home' and Elvira, Keith, Dave and I went over to Tierney and Gus's place to 'catch up.' I think the last time we were all six together was at Tierney and Gus's wedding in 2001!! Waaaaay too long ago.

Us girls sat on the couch and chit chatted about everything and nothing.

The guys sat in chairs on the other side of the coffee table and talked about techno-geek type stuff (we think - we weren't really paying attention.)
The happy, expectant couple!
Elvira doing what Elvira always does... (nice stripey socks!)

The next day Grandma Suzie (my Mom) got re-acquainted with Tipton and Lilli. Lilli was all about Grandma Suzie!

Although I don't remember my Mom ever playing games with us when I was a child, she is all about playing with the grandchildren. Here she and Lilli are playing against Tipton in a game called Sleeping Queens. (A great game - I highly recommend it!)

Thanksgiving day was beautiful - or at least it started out that way. We had the turkey in the oven and didn't need to do any further food preparations for a while, so Papa suggested we go for a walk and enjoy the beautiful day.

Papa and the kiddos check for cars before crossing the street.

Tipton and Lilli are wearing their new Spiderman sunglasses. Tipton demonstrates how to 'sling webs.'

Tipton and me walking through the woods. We were looking for leaves to use as patterns for our Thankful Tree.

Last year the kids and I started a new tradition. We would make a tree trunk out of paper, then cut out paper leaves to tape onto our tree. On each leaf we would write something that we are thankful for.

Lilli hurries to catch up with Mommy, Tipton and Papa.

Lilli vs the Tree.

Tipton and Lilli with their big sticks.

The walk to and through the woods wore Lilli out, so she hitched a ride on my shoulders for the walk back home.

Shortly after we got home it started getting dark, really dark. Then the bottom fell out of the sky and it rained - poured! Good thing we'd taken our walk before dinner!

Grama and Donna. Took several tries to get this picture. At first Grama was looking away. Then Donna pointed out that I was taking a picture and I snapped one of Donna pointing at the camera. Then finally got this one. Not the best picture, but still...

The Wii was a big hit on Thanksgiving (you'll notice that the dark clouds have moved on and the sun has come out once again.) Here cousin Todd shows Bailey how to bowl. Look at that form!

Here Tipton and Lydia play baseball. Tipton is pitching, Lydia is hitting.

The Middleton Men check out the backyard. (Dave, George, Todd)

The temptation was just too much for Grama - she had to try the Wii, too! We started her off with the bowling.

Lilli takes a break from all the fun to relaxe on the chaise lounge.

Lydia reads a book to Tipton and Lilli.

Cynthie tries her hand at bowling. Look at that concentration!

Happy cousins. I believe they were watching Meet The Robinsons.

Great Grama and four out of seven great grandchildren. Tipton, Bailey, Great-Grama, Lydia and Lilli.

Thanksgiving fell on my Mom's birthday this year. Happy Birthday, Mom! Love you!

Dueling Grandmas. Grandma Suzie and Grandma Kay read Lilli a book.

Cheese! Lilli, Grandma Suzie and me. Taken right before we took Grandma Suzie to the airport. (Tipton was being grumpy and refused to be in the picture.)

Grandma Suzie and Lillian Suzanne.

After we took Grandma Suzie to the airport we went over to Uncle John's so that all of the cousins could see each other. Here Lilli is attacking cousin Donna while cousin Bailey looks on. I think Lilli was trying to claim the bean bag as her own.

Here cousin Todd tickles cousin Lilli. When he would stop Lilli would yell "Tickle more!"

Here cousin Todd and cousin Tipton play "keep away" from cousin Donna.

Here cousin Lilli is giving cousin Jack (aka Super Boy) a hug.

Here cousin Jenn and cousin Cynthie are holding cousin Tru and cousin Cam.

Here cousin Tipton is picking his nose. A nasty habit that his parents are trying to break him of.

Here cousin Tipton plays with one of cousin Jack's trucks. (Please note that we had him wash his hands after he picked his nose.)

Here are Grama Kay and Papa with all of their grandkids! Cameron, Lillian, Truman, Jackson and Tipton.

Here cousin Cam and cousin Tipton discuss Hokies football. Or maybe they're just making faces at each other.

The Great-Grandchildren! Lydia, Tru, Jack, Tipton, Lilli, Bailey and Cam.

Papa distracts the kiddos while Dave and I run around packing. Lilli is fascinated by Papa's hairy arms.
We had a wonderful, wonderful time in the US. We were there for three weeks, but it went by way too fast.
